FAQs for Clients
Q: Is it free to set up an account?
A: Yes, it is completely FREE. You pay absolutely nothing to use the website. All you have to do is sign up, which is quick and easy.
Q: How do I find the attorney that is right for me?
A: Once you have an account, you can find the right attorney for you one of two ways. You can post a summary of your legal needs, which attorneys review and then email you to tell you how they can help you, or you can search for attorneys using criteria such as location of the the project, area of law involved, and price.
Q: Which way is better—searching for an attorney or posting a summary of my legal needs?
A: It is all about
preference. If you are willing to search for attorneys, contact the
attorneys that seem to be a good fit, find out their rates, and see
if they are interested in representing you, then searching for an
attorney could work for you. However, if you would rather post a
quick summary of your legal needs and have attorneys come to you, that
will likely cut down on the time and hassle it will take for you to
evaluate and find the attorney that is right for you.
A: Simply click the "Get Started" button, fill out the project posting form to the best of your ability, add any additional questions you would like attorneys to answer, and submit the summary for review by all applicable attorneys. You should not share any sensitive information when posting your legal needs. The project posting is not privileged or confidential, and can be reviewed by any attorney who has a Legal Services Link account. Accordingly, you should not include names, contact information, social security numbers, information that may implicate you in a crime or expose you to civil or criminal liability, or any other sensitive information in your project posting.
Q: What questions should I ask attorneys when posting my legal needs?
A: You should ask attorneys anything you would like an answer to. Typical questions can, and should, include questions such as, what is the budget for this project? Do you require a retainer? Have you handled this type of project before? What is the likely outcome?
Q: Will my contact information be included with my project posting?
A: No, your project posting is completely ANONYMOUS and your contact
information will not be included with your posting unless you
include it.
Q: Should I share sensitive information when posting my legal needs?
A: No, you should not share any sensitive information when posting your legal needs. The posting is not privileged or confidential, and can be reviewed by any attorney who has a Legal Services Link account. Accordingly, you should not include names, contact information, social security numbers, information that may implicate you in a crime or expose you to civil or criminal liability, or any other sensitive information in your posting.
Q: Once I have posted my legal needs, what do I do next?
A: Once you have posted your legal needs, interested attorneys will send you emails to discuss those needs, but that will take
some time—sometimes, a few hours and sometimes, a few days. Emails from interested attorneys will be emailed directly to you and all emails submitted will appear on your
Client Homepage, so you can quickly and easily review and evaluate your options from that page.
Q: How do I determine which attorney is best for me?
A: Evaluate the attorney emails and the profile for each attorney that responded. Ask yourself questions such as, which attorney’s application is most helpful? Which attorney’s profile is the most impressive? Which attorney answered your questions in the most informative, helpful, and direct manner? Which attorney’s rates and credentials line up best with what you are looking for? Which attorney is rated the best? Then, weigh the answers to those questions, and select the attorney that is the best fit for you.
Q: Once I have identified the best attorney for me, how do I hire that attorney?
A: Legal Services Link helps you find the best attorney for you, but is not involved in the hiring process, which is done entirely off-line. If you searched for an attorney, you need to contact that attorney directly using the attorney’s contact information in his or her profile. If you posted your legal project, once you have found the best attorney for you, click on the “Accept Application” link or button. An email addressed to the attorney you have selected will be automatically generated for you review and modification, including your contact information and asking the attorney to contact you to further discuss the representation. Once you have sent that email and you and the attorney are in direct contact, you should discuss and finalize the details of the representation. If, after talking with the attorney, you decide to hire him or her, the hiring process is done entirely off-line, without Legal Services Link’s involvement.
Q: How do I post my rating and feedback for an attorney that I have hired on the site?
A: You can only
post a rating and feedback for an attorney on the site after you have accepted the
attorney's application and hired the attorney. Once that has happened, you can provide feedback on the attorney, which is accessible from your client homepage. All rating and feedback posted should be fair, accurate, and constructive. Ratings or feedback that are unfair, inaccurate, or not constructive may be subject to removal from the site.
