Biography

Mr. Lohman has tried over 30 jury cases as solo or first-chair trial attorney, not to mention dozens of bench trials and hundreds of arbitrations around the Chicago area. Mr. Lohman won over 10 not-guilty jury verdicts from a jury in his first few years of practice. He also won a reverse and remand after oral argument before the Illinois Appellate Court in the matter of Mueller v. Andre.

Mr. Lohman is licensed to practice law in Illinois and Kentucky. He is also a practicing real estate broker in Illinois, and a band manager.

At the height of his personal injury defense career, Mr. Lohman defended almost exclusively wrongful death and catastrophic injury cases, handled complex litigation matters, and managed part of a 40-plus attorney, 3-office law firm.

Later, he represented plaintiffs in personal injury matters and expanded his career into commercial litigation and transactions, including real estate closings and federal intellectual property matters, handling matters for both plaintiffs and defendants in both state and federal courts.

Mr. Lohman managed his own practice for 9 years. He is most recently the founding principal of a multi-attorney business law firm.

Mr. Lohman handles residential and commercial real estate transactions, commercial leases, real estate litigation and landlord/tenant issues. He is a title agent. He also handles the acquisition and sale of business assets.

He represents plaintiffs in wrongful death and severe personal injury cases.

Mr. Lohman services clients in the music and film industries. He drafts contracts, shops demos, executive produces films, and provides management services for musical acts. He also handles copyrights and trademarks.

Mr. Lohman handles equine-related matters, including horse sales, breeding contracts, waivers of liability for stable owners and recreational equine activities, farrier and vet malpractice.

He pursues collections for companies and individuals and handles corporate formations.

Our services include: income, estate and sales tax civil and criminal controversy and compliance coverages, on federal, state and local levels; construction defense litigation, both injury and commercial; OSHA compliance; a full array of real estate services, including residential and commercial transactions, landlord/tenant issues, litigation, and title agent services, with a focus on distressed properties and short sales; business asset sales and purchases; commercial litigation, in both federal and state court, for both plaintiffs and defendants; entertainment law services, including demo shopping, contracts, litigation, film production and artist/label/company representation and counseling; corporate compliance and formation; trademarks and copyrights; equine law services, including boarding agreements and issues, veterinary and farrier malpractice litigation, waivers of liability and indemnification agreements, and breeding/sales/syndication agreements; employment contracts and non-compete agreements/clauses, including compliance issues; bankruptcy; probate issues.

  Flying Solo is a Chicago area networking group for attorneys only. We accept two members from each law practice area. We also accept membership from licensed, non-practicing attorneys who are working in other entrepreneurial businesses and professions that compliment the group as a whole and provide reciprocal value (again, two members from each of those areas as well). New members must be solo legal practitioners or sole owners of their respective non-law businesses, although we have grandfathered in long-standing members who have transitioned to very small non-solo businesses (2-6 attorney law firms or similarly situated non-law businesses in which the former solo practitioner is a partner or owner).
  
  Our goal is the professional success of our members. We accomplish this goal by focusing on internal referrals of business, the continued education of our members, helping our members keep up-to-date on changes in law, procedure and technology, the provision of mentoring and professional support, and the offering of ancillary services and connections. We meet on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month in the evening, at The John Marshall Law School. We also hold social functions and holiday celebrations, and we periodically participate in other groups' functions, such as the SBAC (Small Business Advisory Council) and Linked N Chicago.
  
  We are lucky to count as members not only newly practicing attorneys, but seasoned veterans who are well-known in their practice areas, retired members of the local judiciary, realtors and other business owners.
